Veterans sacrifice themselves for the citizens of our country. As citizens, it’s our job to ensure our veterans have the support they need.

Jim Rateike

Husband, Father, Marine, Leader, Planner, Veteran Advocate

Jim Rateike is a father, husband, and Marine Corps Veteran. Jim resides in Springville, Indiana on a 15-acre hobby farm, with his wife Ashley, and their daughter Melody. He currently works as a Manufacturing Supervisor at Catalent Pharma Solutions in Bloomington, Indiana.

Jim Grew up in the Suburbs of Chicago, where he played sports, worked on cars, and was active with Boy Scouts of America. He earned his Eagle Scout in 2005 and graduated from Mundelein High School in 2006. While attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale (SIUC), Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2009 as a Reservist 0612, Field Wireman. After graduating from SIUC in 2010 with a Bachelor's in Automotive Technology with a minor in Business Administration, Jim was selected to go to Officer Candidate School in 2011 and was commissioned in the Marine Corps in 2012.

Jim married his wife Ashley in 2013 and they moved to Okinawa, Japan in 2014. This is where Jim met Dan Belew and their friendship began. Jim worked as a Communications Officer and Platoon Commander in a variety of roles until he left the Marine Corps and Japan in 2017 to pursue a more family-focused lifestyle.

Once Stateside, Jim began working on his Master of Business Administration through Pace University and the Lubin School of Business. In 2018 Jim and Ashley moved to Wisconsin where Jim pursued a variety of roles in Service and Sales Leadership. Finishing his MBA in 2019, Jim was excited to lead and mentor all those around him. Unfortunately, with COVID-19 his company reduced in size, and Jim, with his wife, relocated to Indiana for a new role with Catalent in 2021. Currently, Jim is still with Catalent and supports their Operations and Production Teams, and has worked on special projects with their Continuous Improvement team after finishing his Six Sigma Black Belt in 2022.

Recently, Jim has been focusing on starting a laser engraving company, as well as a small business consulting firm. After purchasing his first large laser engraver Jim wanted to start doing projects to establish his knowledge base and best practices before opening his shop for public interaction. Knowing that his friend Dan Belew had started a Non-profit, Jim reached out to see if he could use their logo to make some items that could be then donated to be used at events or fundraisers. The more Jim learned about the history and mission of Rescue + Residence, the more he wanted to support Dan and his cause.

After seeing the failures of the VA and other programs firsthand, Jim has taken a personal interest in Veteran Suicide and Veteran quality of life. 2 of the biggest factors that affect these are quick and responsive medical care, and hope. People need hope to make the next step, and it is hard to find hope when you don't have the ability to find a home or source of income. That is why Rescue + Residence resonates so much with Jim, it’s not a hand-out, it’s a hand-up. It’s not a bribe to be able to walk away, it’s an opportunity. Here is a way out that you can work through and help others work through. A real chance to take the next step forward, regain a sense of purpose and confidence, and develop a skill set that allows you to provide yourself with an income. This is why Jim supports Rescue + Residence and this is why he asks others to support it too.
